We're really happy to let you have the package which enables Link support in Max 7.

It's now up in the Package Manager, access it from the File menu in Max.

As many of you know, Link is an Ableton engineering effort for beat syncing apps across wifi networks. Be jamming with your friends on their iphones in a blink! No more messy MIDI sync in laptop orchestras etc.

It's an awesome package and we would have loved to get it to you sooner but we wanted to clarify a license arrangement with Ableton. You can build standalones and include Link functionality, making Max really useful for prototyping Link based apps. However, if you want to distribute these standalones to others you will need to sign your own agreement with Ableton.

From the licence -

“Ableton Link is licensed for use within Max. If you would like to incorporate Link support into a Max standalone application, it will require a specific license for your application. If you are a standalone developer interested in including Link support, please contact Ableton at link-devs@ableton.com for more license related information. For more technical information on Link, please visit https://ableton.github.io/link/.”

We're also very pleased to include some reworked versions of the classic DDG MIDI sequencing tools in this package, because in testing and developing this is what we found ourselves having the most fun with.

Enjoy!

Yes, thank you all for this.
Could I ask, why is this not working? Is this just my patch or is there something inherent to link.phasor that I do not fully understand?
Watch the Max console window, after a few seconds of running.

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

Link is not designed to be sample accurate. It's constantly adjusting itself to sync all peers in a Link session.

It is explicitly stated in the SDK that the Link protocol is not meant to produce phasor~ ramps suitable for audio playback. We went ahead and made one anyway, which implements a PLL. You'll see it correcting itself every now and then at the transition, which is why I'm guessing you're getting odd results.

This is more or less why we created link.beat.

Hope this helps

Cheers

And all the people say "Yeah!!!"

Initial test with Link enabled iPad apps are super solid.

And I was planning on catching up on some sleep tonight ....

Oh, well : )

Will this work in Max 6.1.10 on a windows computer?

The reason I ask is that it works on OSX but I am collaborating on a project with PC users and it doesn't work for them?

Thanks

Alan

Hi @Andrew Pask, I happend to reinstall my max 7 application on windows and now im trying to install the link packages that I had installed prior the reinstall but the package manager only offers me the latest link version 1.2.6 which requires max 8 and I dont get an option to install older package version that works with max7.
Is there a way to get hands on the older version that works with 7?

Thanks
Ivo

Hi and thanks for the super nice Link package. Is use it for a while now.

My Question for the ddg.v2arp: Is there a easy way to add an hold function, when using a midikeyboard.
This would be great!

Thnx
Ben
