Zones of Emergency

Zones of Emergency, a collaboration between MIT Visual Arts Program and artists, technologists, theorists and practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds and fields -- examines the scale and complexity of catastrophe and disaster scenarios through lectures and panel discussions. Discussion ranges from the philosophical and cultural understandings of the emergency to practical "on the ground" operating organizations to the current use of networked technology examining its own breakdown.

The Digitised Body

MINDTouch explores ideas of non-verbal transference, telepathic collaboration, and the participant as performer, using biofeedback and mobile phone technology under meta-goals of studying "liveness" within mobile networked environments. MINDTouch involves creating a mobile networked performance that utilizes a database of streamed and/or archived video-clips created by video-enabled mobile phones, to then be retrieved, streamed and remixed during (a) live visuals performance(s).

Raster-Noton Showcase

SIGNAL is a Raster-Noton supergroup, featuring Carsten Nicolai (aka Alva Noto), Olaf Bender (aka Byetone), and Frank Bretschneider. The trio performs intense, hypnotic music to a spectacular backdrop of graphical information that reveals the complex geometry of the sounds in play.

Doleros

Doleros is an 8-channel surround sound installation that reconstructs the experience of audio tourism at Ringing Rocks Park, a popular boulder field in rural Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Featuring the largest diabase (dolerite) deposit in North America, Ringing Rocks Park offers visitors the opportunity to explore the sonic qualities of the geologic detritus, which produces different ringing qualities when struck.
