I am sending text with textedit to jit.gl.text to be display on top of movie clips. I would like to be able to write text in different lines, and so far I can only write in one single line. I looked into the the textedit inspector and there is a maximum lines option, but can´t figure out how to enter text and hit enter and continue typing text. There is also a Separator option but I choosed a symbol thinking that it would be understood as a line separator but it seems it doesn't work that way. Probably is something very easy to do, but can´t figure it out.

Sharing this early and tentatively, mostly to see what people think.

It's a small thing I've been working on: an LLM that builds and reads Max patches from natural language. I know it's not a new idea at all:  there's the original MaxMSP-MCP-Server by Haokun Tian & Shuoyang Zheng, and ersatzben's extended fork. Mine is an independent attempt with a few different choices, not a fork of either, and I'm not claiming it does anything better at all !

The main differences, for what they're worth: it talks to Max over OSC/UDP into [thispatcher] rather than a Socket.IO bridge, writing via plain thispatcher scripting and reading via a [v8] object that walks the patcher with proper stock objects only, no externals. There's also a small chat window living inside Max itself ([node.script] + [jweb]), so you can use it without any external client, or go through Claude Desktop/Code if you prefer. And it can look up object signatures from a reference DB parsed from your own installed .maxref.xml, when it bothers to use it.

Being a Max trainer, what I was really curious about was whether an LLM could be nudged toward sane patching habits — naming objects, keeping a value separate from its trigger, reading the patch back. Honestly it's still inconsistent at that, and finding out where it falls down is half the reason I'm posting. But could really be better improved with kind of specific grounding from user guides etc.

Status: v0.4, a first public test. It works and has a few tests, but it's rough and has had very little real use. Expect things to break. Genuinely just looking for feedback from people who know Max well.

 is end of life since long. The goto solution for using a DMX USB Pro recently was using the serial object directly.

I wanted to start learning to write Max externals, and I chose to create an external for the DMX USB Pro.

A beta version of the package is available here: 

https://github.com/janmech/jam/releases/tag/1.0-beta

 for sending and receiving DMX data from the interface  and

 for use with audio signals (sending DMX data only).

To install, download and unpack the zip package and copy it to the Max Packages folder. On first load of the externals Max might ask you to remove the quarantine attribute. Just confirm and continue (I don't have a paid Apple developer account, that's why). 

The externals are compiled for MacOS 10.15 and later and should load on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

Looking forward for feedback and if there is interest in continuing this little project also collaborators are very welcome!

I want to create a counter console. For example, if I pause the playback midway and manually change the min/sec/mili sec number box, or change the "unité ms" number box, I want them to change in sync with each other, so that I can specify the playback point from either side. Also, currently, even if I move the mili sec number box in the min/sec/mili sec section, it doesn't move within the range of 0-999, nor does it increment the value in the sec number box. How can I create a structure where, if I raise mili sec after 999, milisec becomes 0 and sec becomes 1, and if sec is 59, it becomes 0 and min becomes 1? Please give me your opinion.

I am working on a patch and I have been dealing with a problem for a while now. I abstracted the problematic part to post here. The fact that it uses the bach library is probably relevant.  

I have a system intended to backtrack through a list of fractions backwards, by increasing with a counter the amount that is to be subtracted from the address (index), so that if it receives address 4, it should retrieve address 3, 2, 1, and stop at 0. The address and the list are received by a bach.nth object, which retrieves the list item at the given address. 

Now, if the system worked correctly, starting with index 4, it should retrieve the elements from the list [1/8  1/4  1/4  1/4] in the following order: 1/4, 1/4, 1/8; that is, the values for addresses 3, 2, and 1. Instead, via the system of automatic iteration, it retrieves the values in the order 1/8, 1/4, 1/4; in other words, backwards. 

Do you perhaps know what the problem may be? If I do the iteration manually, one by one, the thing works. But in the way I'm doing it now, the list arrives backwards, as can be seen in the [prepend append] object that collects the fractions into a list. 

Below is the patcher. I marked the steps, that is, what to press (the address: 4, and the list) with numbers, to specify the order in which they should be pressed.

I created and rendered an mp4 movie file using kdenlive where the "slideshow" ends at 02:27:28:21 and an end title displays until 02:27:54:01 giving the movie 266,222 frames at 30 fps and 8874 seconds of run time.  The length of the "slideshow" was determined by the length of a set of mp3 audio files that are supposed to eventually be the soundtrack of the final movie.

When jit.movie reads the file, the correct fps 30, framecount 266222, and time_secs 8873.6416 property values are reported, but when jit.movie is running in a M4L device I also created (

 question) doing audio reactive video effects to the "raw" slideshow, the movie consistently finishes (and loops or not) before the mp3 audio files finish (and loop or not), video ending nearly a minute early taking the end title time into account.

This same "fast clock" run time behavior of jit.movie occurs whether Live is running under External MTC timecode sync or its own clock. And strangely, the "time ruler" display setting at the bottom of Live's Arrangement view might make a difference in how "fast" the movie plays back?  After "discovering" that time ruler and switching it to 30 fps matching the movie to verify Live thinks the unwarped mp3 audio files run (approximately) 02:27:28:xx, I think I started seeing the "better" (less fast) end time for jit.movie playing the mp4 file reported here.

I'm using OBS to record the "FX pass" video received from the M4L device patch over Spout, and the recording process might also be impacting the playback?  But I would expect any "unexpected impact" like that to slow down performance, not improve it.

I don't need the audio and video to stay in sync and loop for days at a time, one pass within say 10 frames would be fine.  What can I do?  Anything?
