I have a set of Max projects that I use with some of my college classes, mostly fairly simple things that we use in the lab, where I have a room full of iMacs.  Lately I've started trying to send the students home to run these on their home computers.  And I find that a surprising number of students have a surprising number of problems getting these things to run.

Sometimes I suspect that they haven't installed the program correctly, even though it is a very simple install.  Sometimes it may have something to do with how they have the audio set up at home.   Sometimes patchers seem to be running but there is no sound.  

What I'm wondering is: are there any useful troubleshooting things I can have them do when a patcher either fails to open or doesn't run properly?  Some kind of diagnostic they can run, screenshot, and send to me?

I am currently working on a couple of new projects focused on AI (Artificial Intelligence) integration with Ableton Live and I am looking for "friendly users" who can help me beta testing two new tools.

This is a simple utility device. It operates as a transparent device in Ableton Live and works as a “COPY & PASTE” utility for exchanging MIDI data (for a selected MIDI clip) with external applications. 

This data can then be easily used with a Web AI Tool, for MIDI generation and manipulation.

A) Generate MIDI with a Web AI Tool and paste them into a MIDI clip in Ableton Live

B) Manipulate MIDI coming from Ableton Live with a Web AI Tool and then insert it back in Ableton Live on a (new) MIDI clip.

For both use-cases also a set of prompt examples and prompt design rules are provided (see user manual).

Videos and tutorials are in the making, for now only a user manual is available.

This is a big boy. This package provides connection points, code, rules, methods and example prompts for the use of an external “local-coding-enabled” AI Tool (such as Gemini CLI) as an assistant to Ableton Live. The toolset can also be used for automation purposes. 

Two (quite powerful) use-cases are covered by this tool:

1. The use of the provided Python toolset for automation and scripting of Ableton Live (snapshots, backups, MIDI operations, warp markers operations, etc.). This use does not involve an AI Tool.

2. The use of a “local-coding-enabled” AI Tool (such as Gemini CLI) as a multipurpose assistant, capable of creating and manipulating an Ableton Live project directly (it uses the same components of the toolset).

For both use-cases you get instruction and prompt examples, for now in a user manual.

- Ableton Live 11 or 12, with Max for Live (e.g. as in Ableton Live "Suite")

- Windows 10 or 11 // MacOS 10.13 or higher

- An Internet connection on the computer you run the devices (for the AI tools connected to them)

- In the case the “J74 MIDI Assistant” you do not need additional tools. The utility is directly usable.

- In the case the “J74 Assistant Developers Tools” you will need to have / install Python and Google's "Gemini CLI" (a Google account is required). You will need to do some integration and installing, but no coding is required.

- You will get the final version of both tools for free (download link and licenses)

- You can help me shape these tools (it can be a rewarding experience) and I will add your name (if you like) to the contributors.

I'm not able to get Order Independent Transparency working for Transparent 3D objects.  It's a new feature  in Max 9 with almost no information on it.  All I could  find is that it uses the "depth_sort" and "transparency" attributes for the jit.world object. 

The attached test patch shows the problem.  It also shows the previous method using layers to control transparency.  

In the patch the depth_sort attribute works but the transparency attribute does not.  When transparency is set to 1, any transparent object disappears.  When transparency is set to 0, one object loses transparency when it intersects with the other object.

I am wanting to use pattrstorage to save the names of files dropped into live.drop in max patches (not a M4L device). If I drop a file into live.drop I see the file name in live.drop's GUI and the file name is sent out the left outlet if it is a file in my searchpath, or the full path is sent if it is a file from outside the searchpath. Works as expected. 

However when I look at pattrstorage's client window or try to store a preset, the data is not displayed or retained. If I open the clientwindow and type the file name (or full path) into the data slot and store a preset, the data is retained and recalled as expected. This also functions with typing the name of the file into the storage slots themselves in the storagewindow. 

I have tried with pattr and autopattr. I have tried with a paired preset object and by sending the store message into pattrstorage. None of these storage methods populate pattrstorage with the data, only typing in the data in the clientwindow or storagewindow will populate pattrstorage. I have also found that after dropping a file and checking the Initial Enable box in the inspector that it is possible to save that file through normal pattrstorage interactions. That file then becomes the only data that pattrstorage will store through normal interactions.

Here is a simple example, does it work for you to save data in a preset (Initial Enable is deactivated, try enabling it after dropping something)? Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

I'm a bit stuck. I'm trying to playback multiple video files using midi. When a folder is loaded into the JS program, a jit.movie object is created for each video in the folder. The issue comes from how to play each video. I don't seem to be able to use timeouts with JS in max so I have a counter object in the patch to count through the frames of each video, however, I can only do this for one video at a time and can't play them back polyphonically. 

Any hints or solutions would be fantastic!
