Hey Moss,

Thanks for your reply, definitely a good reference laptop. That’s pretty much what I would want to do initially with my setup. Looks like the Lenovo X230t would be a good choice right now, its annoying how few “touch/tablet laptops” can do the 180 degree screen swivel (see the Yoga’s “tent” formation).

Here’s hoping for multitouch gestures in Max sometime in the near future. I’m wondering how difficult it would be to simulate “multitouch”-like events (like registering a ‘swipe’ gesture as some sort of combination of regular mouse click events), I’ll definitely try to exhaust all of the possibilities if I get my hands on a suitable machine!

Hi,

I use a Lenovo X220 convertible with Max. I built a VST host with sheet display, backing track, etc. I basically use the touch to move to the next / previous song. Works fine. It sad that the controls do not support multi touch, e.g. it would be nice to scroll through lists (the setlist in my case) using swipe.

Cheers!

Hi there,

First time poster, I’ve been using Max for a few years now but have only recently integrated it with my live performance setup, primarily as a MIDI router for my guitar gear (usually an FCB1010 footboard and Sansamp PSA1 through an UA-25 audio interface to a Macbook Air). I’ve been thinking about getting a touchscreen laptop, but am uncertain of the prospects of running the Max runtime in Windows (8?) and using touch for basic interactions and settings adjustments.

I’m aware that Max isn’t multi-touch compatible, I’m not too concerned about that and would just like reliable single touch events. I’m hoping to get the performance benefits of using a standard laptop for audio and MIDI processing in realtime while taking advantage of a touchscreen interface to monitor and tweak my guitar processing setup (primarily through Max). I’m NOT looking for another tablet or dedicated piece of touch hardware. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or advice, thanks!

ah. i didn’t know there is also a high quality waveshield. thanks.

what do you think about the android mobile path ?
i mean its has an api, it has hifi, sensors for orientation, a headphone out, a via usb chargeable batteries, its small and light.
i believe the hardest thing will be syncing the streamed audio on the mobiles to the video from the desktop computer ?
setting up 10 stable streams via wifi shouldn’t be to hard ?
or maybe syncing local files on the mobile to the remote video with a kind of timecode ?

thanks a lot for all your very helpful replies guy’s ;-)

if the streaming is to difficult i just stream the raw source audio material (four channels) to all mobiles and do the processing/mixing individually on the mobiles or keep the raw audio material directly on the mobiles

I seriously doubt Bluetooth will give you ten different channels in a stable. Of course I don’t know the wireless distance you want to achieve…

@Zerox_, is your audiostream mono or stereo? Maybe you should look at the possibility of making a remote controllable (eg Xbee) mp3/wav player and mesh network them…

With In Ear Monitoring (IEM) you can transmit up to one stereo channel per transmitter. Of course the device has the capability to select a transmitting RF channel. Since this hardware is often used in PA/Event/Stage/… situations this is a necessity in order to not disturb other users and to be able to make channel arrangements.

Again, it’s not the cheapest option, but very reliable, especially if you want to do multichannel stereo transmitting.

Streaming wireless: data can grow (too) big very easy…

There are other, smaller solutions that shouldn’t be too difficult to attach to Arduino and others. They use the same RF band as Wi-Fi (around 2.4GHz) but their signal isn’t Wi-Fi by standard. Problem with these devices is the range they take and the robustness of the signal which is far less compared to pro IEM hardware. Also they are rarely mini-jack plug and play and have a less wide frequency response…

hi dtr,

although my system consists of a windows pc and an old motu ultralite I think I have had similar issues. I havent solved these completley, but one thing helped a lot: I checked the PCI latency performance with the tool “DPC latency checker“. It has shown some latency spikes which triggered the crackling issue of the ultralite. So I’ve tried to find the cause of the ocassional PCI latency spikes and have found that disconnecting the USB hub solved it. PCI lantency can also be caused by antivirus sw or other backround activities, I think.

I dont know if there is a similar software for OSX….

cheers
