I'm sending texts from Max to a Thermal Printer via Arduino.

After trying many different methods, I think Max cannot send more than 38 characters to the printer using the serial object. So I'm wondering if a string data is longer than 38 characters, detect the last word and send it as a separate string. 

Because texts have to be sent as ASCII characters to Arduino, my thought was to search the last 32 (which is space as an ASCII character) from the string data and split the string from that... I'm not sure whether it's possible in Max.

Or maybe the problem is that I didn't find a way to send more than 38 characters to the Thermal printer...

Sure! there's the new string object to do various manipulations on strings or regexp as a fallback. But it's not clear from your description if you already have a list of ascii numbers. If so, you can work with zl objects. maybe post a patcher to show what's your input and the desired output.

Are you sending line feed and all that is needed to talk to Arduino/Printer ?

Thank you for your quick responses! There is a new string object! I didn't realise that. Although I'm not sure whether any of those objects do what I'm trying to do.  Also, if I use zl.iter with ASCII list, it doesn't understand which ones are words so it breaks in between words.

Here's an attempt. I prefer text-based code for this kind of algorithms. This does not check if a single word is already longer than 38 chars.

Thank you so much 11OLSEN! So far, I haven't seen any single word longer than 38 characters 😅 so this solved my issue!
