I've downloaded all the 8bit-like objects from mmonoplayer

But the following objects are not working:

I already double checked if I did download the right ones...which I did,

and have them all in the same 3rdPartyExternals folder from where I'm

running atar2600~ ad pokey~. Restarted Max after installation several

times and still the same messages in the Max Window.

Any advice on this? Is there any other source where to get 8bit-like

Or to go even further...how do I create my own 8bit-like sounds with

MSP? I'm having a hard time trying to create my own sounds, I can make

MSP make noise, but can't really synthesize what I want.

Just saying that they don't work is not really helpful.  Please
provide system details like OS, max version etc. if you want any help.

This is saying that the external couldn't be loaded because you don't
have the MaxAPI framwork in /Library/Frameworks.  Can you verify if
you have this there or not?

the package contents of "nes_square~.mxo" were two files: a README file with

license info and another package also called "nes_square~.mxo". this inner

package appears to be the actual external. the info windows says it is

PowerPC and the otool -f does not return anything in the terminal (i did

drill down to the executable), but it does not show an error either.

I downloaded the universal binary zip of the atari external. I then unzipped it. I ctrl+clicked on the .mxo file and went to "show package contents". I then moved the atari2600~.mxo file WITHIN the original atari2600~.mxo package to my Max/MSP search path. I think the guy goofed in naming the package file.

I got sound out of the thing by setting up some sliders with the value ranges explained in the HOWTO.txt file found in the package. It sounds like an atari..

The setup is really weird though, because the first inlet does nothing! I have no idea why its there.

I found that simply putting the pokey~.mxo file directly from the zip into my max search path allowed the external to show up.

Its a similar situation, with odd controls an a non-functioning first inlet...

to follow up on this... after looking on the web site, I noticed that there are help files packed in a separate zip file. After loading the help files, I could see the intentions of the externals creator. The atari2600~ one is actually pretty cool!

If you can confirm you're on an macTel and not on PPC, that would  
confirm the error. You need a Universal Binary of those externals (if  
they exist).
