Is it possible to make a "reverse instrument" in m4l? I'd like to try my hand at making something that detects beats in an analog signal and turns them into midi notes. Something like a very scaled-down version of MIDIGuitar (jamorigin.com). Must max devices always fit into the categories of Audio Effect, Midi Effect or Instrument?
