I'm stuck on the 2nd two parts of this assignment. Can anyone point me in the right direction, I'm very new to MSP and only have a vague idea of what I'm doing.

I actually got the 2nd one solved, I'm still really stuck on the last part if anyone could give me some tips it'd be greatly appreciated.

you probably want to use a counter (maybe a random?) and pack that with the note info in conjunction with the kslider... see the mockup below.

Thanks this helps a lot. The only thing I don't understand it the top object box with t b i in it. What is it's meaning exactly?

t is short for trigger. look at the helpfile. it's one of the most important object in terms of order of operations!!! The trigger gets an input and then outputs it to the outlets (which are defined by the other letters). b stands for bang. so whatever comes in is converted to a bang (so we can drive the counter) then after the bang is sent out (right to left ordering) whatever comes in is converted to an integer number (if you sent a float it will be truncated).
