Say you wish to change a number box (integer - although I suppose float will make no difference in my case) by using either the mouse or a slider, is there any way to improve the accuracy of the displayed numbers?

For instance, if I change the value of the number box fairly quickly it may read something like this:

If I change the value to a slower degree it will read:

Now because I am using a few [if] objects my results become inaccurate; the input readings are delivered very quickly. Does anyone have any methods for improving these readings (presuming this all makes sense in the first place :P)?

The numbers are "accurate" enough, numbox is just trying to keep up when you move the mouse faster or further then it can actually handle incrementally.

You might want to use incdec to restrict user input to unit increment/decrement. Otherwise, I think the wisest approach would be to design your patch logic to *not* rely on unit increments.

If you insist, however, something like the below might help you. I usually clean up and comment more than this, but other duties call...

Unfortunately, I have no other way of implementing such logic as the input maps to an 8-channel diffusion system controlled by a wiimote. As such, this requires precise user input.

I tried to paste your example into Max and it didn't work. Have I done something wrong, or does the formatting contain an error?

Peter's solution was in Max 5. Are you still on Max 4?

If you want to catch a passing by value, never use [==], always use [>=] 

that sliders and number boxes don't put out all values on a fast change

I do use Max 5, but copying Peter's solution and selecting 'New From Clipboard' didn't seem to work for some reason. Wierd. Anyway, thanks for your Max 4 solution, Chris, as this seems to work perfectly.

As for collecting a large range of data values, is this bad practice? I am using =< and >= but that still neglects output values. Because I am translating an x-axis value to a custom spatialisation engine, parsing all data is crucial for accurate results. However, although I can see no side effects (like high CPU usage) are there any downsides utilising this method of data processing?

You also have to include the "begin" and "end" lines in the clipboard.
