advice-buying a new machine

August 1, 2006 | 4:01 am

I have about $1300 to spend and I have been looking at used mac dual 1.8G5 vs. the dual2.0.

The dual 1.8 usually comes with the nvidia 5200, and the 2.0 either an ati 9600 or 9800. Is the nvidia faster for openGL stuff in this case? Besides the minor speed differance have people found one of these machines to be more reliable than the other?

Also, I am wondering what kind of performance I might get at this price with a windows box. I will continue to do all of my non-max work on an ibook and dual867, but I really need as much bang for the buck as I can get in this purchase.

Thanks,

http://tomshardware.com has good reviews of those cards – check their
sire for benchmarks and such. Do a search on that site (or using
google) and you’ll get a plethora of good info
