This is my second post concerning algorithmic composition and its kinda difficult to explain so I'll do the best I can.

Without going into loads of detail about my patch, the basic idea is that chords are stored in a coll object as a state transition matrix and each triggered chord is selected based on a first order markov chain. What I want in my patch is to be able to repeat chord progressions. Lets say that I've triggered 8 chords from my markov chain and I decided that I really like the last 4 chords and want to repeat this progression. How do I do this?

I've taken a patch from Todd Winklers 'Composing Interactive Music' called 'ParamColl' and it stores pitch data, velocity and duration in 3 separate colls, here it is:

Since I'm only concerned about pitch (midi numbers), then I have no need to incorporate velocity and duration. Using this patch, I want to record all triggered midi data (single notes for now) into the 'PCPitch coll' and then when I want to repeat lets say the last 4 notes, I want to trigger a bang and have the last 4 stored midi numbers be generated every time I hit my note generater trigger.

I hope this is clear enough? Any ideas would be appreciated as I cant quite get my head around this.

Just realised that I should be a bit more detailed...

Lets say I have just recorded this into my pitchcoll:

If I want to re-trigger the last 4 notes (60 60 60 60) Then my patch somehow needs to know how many numbers are in the coll (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,) and I need to somehow subtract 4 from the highest number and trigger the notes starting from 4, 60;

So theres needs to be a way to know how many recorded notes are stored inside the coll so that the re-trigger point can be reset to the 4 notes before the last recorded note.

repeating the last 4 chords would require a 4th order markov chain if you want the

program to do this for you, or you would have to store those chords anywhere ...

i.e. you have to store _everything what is played from the transition table in some

kind of shoft register ... 4 instances of [zl reg] will make a fine shift register for

4 steps .. or something build around [coll] using its "insert" message.
