I sometimes have a bunch of related abstractions that share the same help file by using aliases (AKA symlinks or shortcuts). So I might have obj1.maxhelp and obj2.maxhelp, which are the same file, so I make obj2.maxhelp an alias to obj1.maxhelp.

It seems Max 5 completely ignores any alias files on the search path, so I get "no help file found". I remember reading there was a good reason for ignoring aliases and the new behavior is here to stay.

Anyone have a suggestion for an easy way to share a help file between objects in Max 5?

I didn't try, but I think hard link should work. Don't know if that's

I didn't try, but I think hard link should work. Don't know if that's  
an option for you though.

Reviving this antiquity of a thread, is there now a proper way to share a help file between objects in Max, i.e. create some help file alias or link, like you can with external objects via objectmappings.txt?:

not so funny when you want to change something but works surprisingly well. :)

an alternative would be to make a little pcontrol laucher (with only a small messagebox visible) in the root level of all abstractions so that you can launch the master "help file" from there.
