Does anyone know how to directly alter the waveform of an oscillator during its playback that doesn't cause discontinuities in the output? I wonder if you could fade between a couple of buffers to make things smoother?

I'd say have two oscillators - whilst using one, update the other, then (when done), fade to the updated one.

I did think this to begin with, but it is an expressive parameter I will be controlling. Like you would control a parameter with the output from line~. I wonder if writing/fading/writing will be responsive enough.

Well - how are you altering your buffer and determining the value to write to the buffers? - maybe altering a buffer is not the right approach at all....

I could be doing the same thing just as easy with audio rate objects.

Well the process itself is re-writing the waveform using some audio rate objects going in to poke~. This sounds different than using the same objects on the output of wave~ as they respond differently to different frequencies.

I'm not sure I really understand the last comment - it'd be easier to understand if you posted your patch. Then it might be possible to offer advice on the best way to get the same result and audio rate control...
