Hey folks,

I’d like to put together a max for live device that selects a given device in ableton, lists all of it’s parameters, and then is able to store those parameters as a preset. It would store a set a presets.

What I would then do is activate each of those presets as by turning to a different location on a rotary encoder- it would be a tremendously great way of controlling devices live by switching between predefined sets of values, rather than working with the values themselves, and would allow me to access different devices with far fewer knobs, by basically making 1 device= 1 knob.

I’m pretty new to max for live and the process of getting and storing the device parameters by inputing the name of a device seems like a pretty daunting task. I did, however, find a device that does this here->http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=166
However, the creator of this patch did it all in java, so I wasn’t able to cut out the parts of the patch I need.

Does anyone know how I could get this accomplished?
Thanks a trillion.
-Sam

This isn’t exactly what you want, but its the same general idea. It allows you to a knob to up to 8 different parameters, and is capable of taking snapshots of those parameters (thus creating a preset). It also allows taking snapshots of the knob positions for all 8 knobs.

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=361

The guts of the patch are built in javascript, but a great deal of it is in Max. Its difficult to do this sort of thing in Max alone.

great! this is a good start actually, I just had the idea that I could build another layer on to this- take the states of these knobs, save those as presets and switch through those with one knob.

That’s enough fire power for any one encoder don’t you think?

The only thing is that instead of being specific to a device, this will be mappable across the whole set. I’ll let you know when I’ve got it done.
