[ANN]HoaLibrary 1.3.1 – 32 & 64 bits – Mac & Windows

Hi,
The CICM is pleased to share the 1.3.1 release of HoaLibrary for Max 6 (32 and 64 bits) – Mac Os and Windows.

HoaLibrary is a collection of C++ classes, FAUST functions and objects for Pure Data, Max and VST destined to high order Ambisonics sound reproduction.

HoaLibrary allows musicians and composers to synthesize, transform and render sound fields in a creative and artistic way. This library facilitates the understanding and the appropriation of key concepts of Ambisonics. Thanks to original graphical interfaces a lot of new signal processings are allowed like diffuse sound field synthesis, perspective distortion or spatial filtering.

HoaLibrary is free, open-source and made available by CICM, the centre of research on musical composition and computer science of the Paris 8 University.

Hey,
I was wondering if you were planning, or thinking about, implementing spatialisation for the third dimension (height)… i don’t even know if it’s possible, maybe it goes against the tehnical principles of the hoa library ?

Hi,
It is merely a question of time. The first release of HoaLibrary came out a year ago, for the moment we wanted to experiment a lot of things and the circular restitution lends itself well to this approach (the equations are simplified, the high orders are easier to reach, etc…). Now, we’re going to expand the library to 3D (it is scheduled for 2014) and we’ll try to offer a decoder that allows all the configurations (sphere, hemisphere, irregular, binaural).

Cool news ! im working on a max project which is 3D interface for spatialisation (should have shared by now but eh), would like to have used the HOA objects but for now it would not make a lot of sense since the height is used.
