Please pardon the brief self-promotion:

Major Malfunction, my Mac OS X Pluggo-based
slice/dicer/mangler/glitcher/FSU plugin specifically tailored for
Ableton Live, is now updated to version 2.0.

It has two primary new features:

1) Multiple effects may be activated per step – this is called “Multi
Mode.” In multi mode, users get to decide whether audio is to flow
in parallel through the selected effects, or serially. If serially,
users can rearrange the order of the effects (graphically) in any way
they desire. (Roman, I figured out a reasonable way to do the UI for
this!)

Although it did not make it to the finished product, at one point in
development I had a really cool “draggable” approach to moving the
effects around, but it was too glitchy to release publicly. Instead
I ended up using the left/right arrows that you see in the released
version.

2) Significantly lower CPU consumption – behind the scenes, all the
effects are now poly~’d, and are turned on only when active. In
previous versions, all effects were consuming CPU at all times, even
if they were being used or not on a particular step.

More info at http://www.defectiverecords.com/majormalfunction – demo
version available.

And many thanks to all those who have helped me along the way, and/or
provided their externals! (Peter Elsea and Jasch).

Thanks,
Dan

I figured I would limit the user to left to right conceptual flow of
audio; then all the user has to do is decide in what order they would
like their effects to be placed in that left to right audio stream.
Using some dynamically generated scripts, I allow them to click a
left or right arrow on each individual effect, to move the effect
left or right in the chain.

As I mentioned, I had a cooler interface when developing, which
literally allowed the user to “grab” a corner of each effect, and
drag it right or left in the effect chain and drop it where they
wanted to; the other effects would move out the way and let it in.
It worked, but was not reliable enough to put out for public
consumption…

Let me know if this is what you were asking for…

Yeah, I know. Like I said with the 1.5 version, I have a fully
functional windows version ready to go (I built it specifically
without a minimum of platform specific code to make porting easy) –
but the graphics and timing are not good on Windows. I think the
graphic aspects are because of many layers of UI overlapping each
other, and which dynamically move while the plugin is in use, and
which for some reason cause major flicker on Windows and not on the
Mac.

I either have to wait for Max 5 and hope that things are different,
or redo the whole app to avoid any overlapping UI elements that move
dynamically.
