In this part of the world (amsterdam) its 2:48AM April 23 and no MAX5 yet.
Too bad, but hey… better a day too late and a GREAT product then right on time and the product sucks!!!

I’m going to bed.

Goodluck to you guys & girls at Cycling working so late ;-)

Hey Joshua,
In the spirit of that clip, can I suggest that when this is all over,
Cycling’74 releases a bunch of webstats and puts out a call for “best
sonification/visualisation of Max/MSP 5 release anticipation behaviour”? To
be rendered in v5 of course….. Winner get’s a free membership in
Maxoholics Anonymous and C74 release of their choice… or perhaps max patch
t-shirt from suchaturnon.com for a touch of that old-school, non-rounded
corners nostalgia ?? :-)

What a day to randomly decide to catch up on the max list after a
hiatus that started before the announcement. And I thought it was
just Earth Day today.

to hit the refresh button.

Thank you for your patience, and enjoy this incredible update.

Still downloading, but thanks for the extra effort to get this out today (makes me feel a little better about how last minute most of my patches are completed). Can’t wait to try it out. The “What is Max” video looks like a great intro to people new to the Max world.

Oh my god Im posting this from within max

Im overwealmed

logic 8, after fx 8, now this, I feel unlimited in creative possibilites and pleasurable to use digital tools with which to manifest my vision.

All the example patches are amazing, X.Ceremony is helarious, wow, this is going to be an amazing year for creativity.

Wow!

I’m downloading now (20 minutes to go)…., found the online documentation and the new stuff in 5.

One word sums everything up for me. WOW!

Awesome work cycling programmers n staff!!!
You guys should be very proud of Max 5. I can’t wait to start learning it. It’s such a great feeling using software that doesn’t version up every year just for the sake of versioning up (any autodesk software users here? Maya 2008, 2009, etc.).

One thing tho, I feel like I should learn the timeline anyways just so I can talk about the old days…all 6 months I had in 4.6.3. haha!

1 “bug” to report thus far.

something thats very important to me and I hope this can get solved very soon, wacom tablet input on the sliders and knobs is very funky, instead of expected behavior, the slider or knob will just slowly drift in the direction it was moved, since I mainly use a wacom this is deadly to me. I remember having a thread lately about wacom and I think many others use them as well.

Yo all new Maxers

Just one question, mainly for the cycling 74 cats.

I bought my Max/MSP 4.6 around the early time of March, so i am entitled to the free upgrade.

When will i get my ilok key. I would like to put it on my smart key before the weekend

MAX/MSP 5 is very very very nice guys, very good job. Just trying it with some old patches and a few i made. Works great.

*PAT ON THE BACK FOR YOU ALL*

ok, after a little bit of titting around with MAX/MSP 5. i have come up with a few groovy things that the cats at Cycling 74 have done great in the fields on the new release

I have put down 7 quick things that are great about the new Max/MSP 5. And with good cause. I have been on Max/MSP 5 for only about 20 minutes (in between time working at the Studio).

Most likely more good things are going to add to the list, but this is just a quick list.

For one, and one which i think everyone can agree with, newbies and pro’s alike.
Is that they have put the documentation inside Max/MSP. which i think is a great idea. Instead of finding the tutorial then loading it up in Preview or some other medium, both for Max/MSP and Jitter.
That is great.

Two.
Obviously it has to be the clean, curves and colors look.

Three.
The ease of use, i can see myself not getting sleep now that it is much easier.

Four.
The info tab that pops up when you hover over a connection. It is great for someone like myself and i think for everyone. It basically is like a teacher telling you what each and every connection does whilst you work, great. Fast work/play mode

Five.
Presentation mode. Wonderful.
Just a simple click and your there. This is going to be great when doing live gigs and the such. And also placing where you want your objects and messages before you lock it. I cant wait to get back on stage with this beast.

Six.
Snap to grid helps make everything link nicer together. So you can always have a nice patch. No more going back to edit.

Seven.
The object window, now is just a simple double click on the screen and just ‘pick-n-mix’

I just got the Max 5 demo.
But I bought the Max/MSP 9 month trial some time ago, and it’s still open till 31th August.

How can I update my Max 4.6 to Max 5 WITH my 9 month trial? The only thing I can fill in is the serial, but I only got a response to the challange of max 4.6 from cycling 74.
Thanks.

The image has even rounded corners, though the objects look more like
flowers than max objects, its easy now to get the same colour feel…
I just hope the outcome of Max 5 doesn’t sound too much like that..-..
but I am DJ Shredder, I could make it sound decent…

Just downloading Max 5 YYYIIIIPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIEE!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve emailed cycling 74 as I purchased the Max/MSP student licence only a few weeks ago. It would have been easier if C74 provided an upgrade link to download automatically for purchases after Oct 2007 as they are entitled to a free upgrade (via log-in account). C74 will have to deal with a lot of pointless e-mails about the free upgrade IMHO. I’m not bothered really as I can use the 30-day trial for now.

Hey, it’s even working in Max 5 without a hickup, but seems a bit
outdated…

Forgot to put this one in the last post.

This one is ace!

First euro transmitted in colour if I recall.

I reckon we should all dress like Sir Cliff for the day and all at C74 should take the lead ;-)

On a more serious note Max5 is an amazing bit of work and it’s only going to get bigger and badder.

Congratulations on its release.
