Any ideas when MSP was released?

I know that Puckette started working on PD in 1996, and David took over and added audio processing to max but what version and when was MSP actually released? I can’t seem to find the date for it’s release anywhere :s
It’s to do with Winkler’s book which was released in 1998 as at the time only Max really existed (any ideas what version he was using, or was this still under Opcode?)

Thanks

We first sold MSP late-1997. Can do some more research if you want a specific date.

MSP is the digital audio side of Max. This seems pretty unambiguous to me: "Max has a number of extensions and incarnations; most notably, a set of audio extensions to the software appeared in 1997, derived in part from Puckette’s subsequent work in Pure Data."
