So I am making a Jitter patch, and after I import a video on qt.movie, I want it to spit the duration value on a number/flonum object, rather than having to retrieve it by having a "getduration $1" message and print it on the Max window.

In simplest terms, what [info~] Total Buffer Size (ms) outlet does.

The 'getduration' message to jit.qt.movie IS the way to get the duration of a movie in Jitter. Instead of sending the duration to a print object, send it to a flonum.
