au~ object-trouble

hi,

i am on 10.5.5 /max 4.6.3, 2.4 ghz mbp.
the au-object completely fails on me: i can open the help-patch, load
an au, play a soundfile, but nothing comes out of au~ except for a
nasty burst sometimes at the beginning of the soundfile. the rest is
silence.

is it only me, or are other having more luck? (i had it working once,
but that was everal os-updates ago)
thanks for any confirmations/contradictions.

I was very disappointed this object was not integral part of Max5. Waiting
for cycling74 to act on that, I’m trying to avoid it for the moment… Not a
solution!

it is not working under 5 any more? that is sad.

dear cyclists, can we ever expect an official au~ object? the need for it seems to be getting pretty ehm.. pressing in the community.

what is cycling’s official stance on audio units?

It has never been working properly under Max 5.

It has been crashing whenever you open the plug-in since the beginning of 5.

i would like to see an [au~] option built in a future release of Max 5. Most like many people who use Max. Because most Max users work with OSX.

Plus having that option is always nice to have really. Then you could even use those nice AU’s that don’t go to VST.
But also more so that many people, that aren’t even posting on this post are asking for it.

I am not that bothered about RTAS though, hahaha…

I believe that Noam Chomsky’s term for this is “creating concensus.”

I am not going to create (a false sense of) consensus, but simply state another couple of good reasons for an au~ object that works: Prosoniq’s Morph and Orange Vocoder plug-ins.

They are only available as Audiounits.

Ideally Max would have AU support. There are many mac plugins out there that are AU only. The excellent sound spectral magic suite of plugs comes to mind.

I guess it is not a priority. Just as exporting as vst (and au) is not a priority.
