Hi all,

i have been working on a patch for months, focusing on sounds and so on.
Now that it is almost finished i desperately need to get rid of those crackles i keep hearing once every while.
While before i just reset the vector size (with crackles temprarely going away) now i need a permanent solution, and i ask for help.
This is my setup:

i have a max patch which sends MIDI messages to Reason or Kontakt.
So MIDI goes out and comes back via Soundflower 16 ch to Max adc~.
As sound gets back i apply some effects, like reverbs and panning.
The patch itself is not very light, asking – on most stressed moments – for 20% of CPU inside Max (40% on Activity Monitor), while Reason takes another 30%.
But it doens’t seems to be CPU related to me, because crackles happens even at much lower CPU usage, *before* stressing moments.

Here’s my setup:

latest mac mini 2.4 Core 2 Duo, 2 Gb DDR3 ram.
Talking about ram, again, I hear crackles even when i have 200mb+ still completely free.
I don’t use any external audio interface for this project, but actually there’s no latency problems.

Does anybody have some suggestion?
Anything would be greatly appreciated! Pleasee
Thanks!

It would help to upload the patch or part of the patch, otherwise it’s difficult to think where problems might be arising.

yes, patch would help. i’d also recommend not using soundflower(i’ve had crackly probs everytime i used it). if you can, try doing everything using rewire or anything else besides soundflower(soundflower used to be better but nowadays it seems underdeveloped…).

i know that you have try it but it is very important to isolate the part of the patch which makes the problem, as much as you can…

for example i have not understand
if the crackles exists without the effect line…

or if the soundflower has crackly problems with another patch in your system…

thanks everybody,

@tim: before i post i need to get rid of all my externals and abstractions… a lot of work, but i’ll try
@Noob4Life: i will try and see if rewire solves… btw, i still have to try Jack, maybe it’s better, don’t know…
@tada good idea: i will try and see if crackles happens if instead of routing back into max and have effects applied, i go directly to audio card
@ Macciza: I have “Scheduler in Overdrive” and “in Audio Interrupt” turned ON.
@ Timothy: I am no t sure of anything *_* so complex, damnit! but now I’ll try to figure out…

again: thanks everyone. Will dig more into the patch and report if anything solves.

Hi
Also check buffer sizes in Soundflower, and audio format through your path for resampling issues . . .
Cheers
