In a video installation I'm helping develop, 12 screens will be connected to 6 MacMinis via HDMI. One computer will be the master, controlling the others via a wired network. There will be only two videos playing in all screens, but each screen will have it's own fade value between them.

As each MacMini will have 2 screens, I developed a patch with two jit.gl.slab, jit.gl.videoplane and jit.gl.render objects:

What is the best way to display those videos? Two jit.windows or just one, combined? Should I use @rect or maybe jit.displays? I want to develop a solution in which no setup is required. Opening the patch will set everything up (fullscreen videos in the right position) and it will be ready to go.

(By the way, the MacMinis will probably come with Mavericks. I'm not quite sure if the new fullscreen mode will change something Jitterwise)

If two screens have the same resolution (say 1280 x 1024) then I'd just use 1 jit.window and 2 jit.gl.videoplanes.

You can also use two jit.window objects and just define the starting point of the window in the argument section of the object.

You only need one jit.gl.render object if you have two videoplanes.

Both viable ways but I think the 1st one is faster.

The two screens are identical, 1920x1080. But I still don't quite understand how I would position this jit.window correctly. Sending it the message "fullscreen 1" would just span over one screen, and that's why I initially thought about two jit.windows. Is it possible to create a sort of "two screen fullscreen"?

for fullscreen i would draw a window of 3840×1080 at position 0x0 and then use [jit.pwindow] in onscreen mode.

Roman, thank you very much! I learned a lot by looking at your files. I didn't knew about the window messages and I just discovered a whole new world ;)

This is what I developed based on your work:

it is a bit more work to just mimic the basic fullscreen function by thispatcher window commands, but it is far more flexible.

i forgot something: my abstraction as is only works in max 4 and max 6, for max 5 you must replace defer with deferlow or it can hang at startup. the reason is not known.

another hint: make yourself a little patch on the desktop or so, which contains the max command for "show menubar (again)" in case it disappeared after you close such an abstraction.
