I'm attempting to process audio input in realtime and then play it back simultaneously. The obvious problem is that my microphone picks up the audio being played back. (I'm recording and slowing down audio) I want to avoid recording the sound being played, but continue recording other real time sounds. I'm aware there are obvious complications, i.e. if you're playing a 440 sine wave and and a 440 sine wave occurs in the room it would be (blocked) luckily logic take's care of this for us in that the 440 is being played, so it will be blocked, but it will be made up for.

Any ideas on how to actually filter out the sound being played to avoid recording it or playing it after it's recorded?

You'll probably find it easier to minimise the feedback/spill you get from the speakers back into your microphone by using practical recording techniques rather than a software fixes. Try pointing the speakers in a different direction to the mics or use some sort of sound proofing material between them if you can. Even moving them further apart will help.

Apart from that it depends on what you are recording. If at all possible using a contact or close mic'ing technique rather than a room mic would minimise the spill. You can always run the dry signal through a seperate channel to your audience.

I agree this would be the best and simplest approach. The problem is that I'm trying to make an immersive audio environment that is both loud and extremely sensitive. Because of this the microphones are going to being picking up lots of noise regardless of the positions.
