Since back in October when that article was posted, Oracle and Apple have announced that they are jointly working on OpenJDK:

Not willing to get all offtopic here but I wouldn't worry about Apple dropping / killing Java. Oracle "prepend wh" (personal opinion) does a marvelous job at that themselves IMVHO.

Like the way they're treating Apache right now; history in the making; one of the members of the JCP is very likely to abandon its position.

In the overall these are sad times for Java IMO :(

But Android might reach the 1st position of all mobile OS, making java the 1st programing language for mobiles maybe. And IMHO, words like "killing" are really unappropriated, no one is gonna reasonably kill this nice language used by so many people around the world.

it's just my general view that a company has a personality guided by its leaders. Steve Jobs has a reputation for barking loudly before every compromise. apple, i'm sure, will come around after it does its best to cajole others into making better on their end.
