Beginner – using MAX/MSP in DAW and Audio Unit support.

April 25, 2008 | 11:52 am

Hi Guys,

I have the Max/MSP 5 demo here and am pretty impressed, before spending the cash on it maybe someone can help me out.

Is is possible to use my MAX/MSP creations inside a DAW?

Is is possible to create a VST/AU from my MAX/MSP creations?

I can embed vst components but not Audio Units, are they not supported?

Cheers

Andy

You can create VSTs from MaxMSP and run them using the (free) Pluggo
runtime. However, you’ll have to work in Max 4 to do this – plug-in
building is not yet available for Max 5.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the info.

I will email them to see if I buy Max 5 if I also get a Max 4 license.

Cheers

I wonder if it will be possible to build AU when Pluggo 5 is ready?

Yes the AU quetion has always made me wonder , though it does not really bother me ,

I have always wonderd why MAX/MSP has seemed to issues with AU ; It must be a technical thing I guess , cos if it was not , I guess there would would be an AU object

maybe someone can explain this detail >>. I would be interested

Someone did actually make a AU object – do some searching and you will find it. Using pluggo runtime I can happily run plugin’s made with max within logic which only uses AU’s.

Here’s a link to the AU object:

While your there it’s also worth checking out is Michael’s Soundmagic Spectral plugins, they’re excellent.
