No problem anymore with Max 6. In Max 5 you would need the hr externals. You’ll need about 600 MB of RAM for one hour mono though. I guess you know about sfplay~, which doesn’t need so much RAM…

for be honnest i (re)begin into max, I was happy with reaktor while a long time. but i’ve receive some good learnings about it in my school.

in fact to have all loaded in Ram seems safer because i need to have two long file perfectly synced together and I worry about bugs of my hd.

but my main prob here is this : ‘Out of memory reading xxx.wav’ yet it seems i’ve enough space :

a clue ? there is a place for allow more RAM to max msp?

pfff if I don’t find a solution for that it’s seems i’ve finnaly bought max msp for nothing : strange that max msp isn’t able to do things reaktor can do

Where I can find the externals ‘hr’ ? if you are talkin about the hr.index~ it seems unavailable anymore, someone could upload it somewhere?

Wait, buffer~ loading files in 32 bit? Shouldn’t buffer~ load files in whatever format they were made in? IE 16-bit, 24-bit, etc? Playback with play~ or groove~ is what’s actually reading from the buffer~, and those are 64-bit now.

The issue in previous versions of max wasn’t being unable to open long files (that worked fine) – it was that you couldn’t play them back with play~ without losing precision after a few minutes.

All audio in Max (3-5) is represented as 32-bit floating point samples.

What word in “all” is hard to understand?

buffer~ converts any file format you read into 32-bit fp (now 64-bit) for processing in your patch, reconverting to the original format on save. But once inside your patch, all samples have a uniform format.

This is all in the tutorials, the relevant help files, and has been discussed on the forum ad infinitum.
