Let's say i have a bass drum sounding to the user, every quarter note. And i then wanted them to repeat it at the same tempo, with a small margin of error (100ms or so before, and 100ms or so after when the beat should come). What would be the best object to use. I've tried the 'timer' object, however that requires the programmed beat to come first and doesn't address the 100ms allowance before hand.

I think you can use the cpuclock object. Timer is for intervals, which you don't really need here. Then you can just check how far it's off the supposed time to hit. Here is an example:
