we are totally lost in a very basic, very annoiing problem.

jit.qt.movie unpredictably changes the black background-colour of
a simple movie to white.
i did a lot of testing on various machines and its not possible to strip
it down to a patch that always does it wrong.
basically i get the result by simply loading the movie in
jit.qt.movie.help.

i made a test-patch, that makes the effect a little more often by
sending
time-messages to jit.qt.movie.

and the thing i am talking about is, that now and then the output is

sometimes i get a totally white frame.

please, if somebody saw things like that already, i would be very
pleased to get a hint
what might be wrong, and how to workaround.

(i tried exporting into several formats, sometimes that makes it
better, but
then after a while, or after time-messages with some more cpu the
same thing happens…)

alpha? try loading it into Image Ready and re-saving it. Perhaps the
gif is messed up. Ive run sprites through jit.qt.movie with alphas
just fine – although they were converted to a QT movie with animation
codec.

is it any movie/gif sprite, or just that specific movie?

does quicktime player proper show those issues?

no

yes, as i said resaving or making a mov helps at first, but then when
having it in a more computing
environment the bug is back again.
this animated gif is just giving me the wrong 255s more often.

i know, the worst thing about it, is that its not always reproduceable.
(eg my machine has qt 7.0.4 and another one with qt 6 did not show
the same bug)

it is with several movies, although they all came from the same source.

problem sounds specific to QT’s GIF decompression. I would recommend
converting to another alpha channel supporting codec like Animation,
TIFF, or PNG, which should work well in Jitter.
