i'm working on a patch for a touch-strip interface (stribe.org) where the idea is to make your finger into a tape playback head, and the touch strip into the tape.

the main problem that i am having right now is the slow polling rate of the interface, which is programmed, but only ranges from 10ms upwards. thus, i am getting a ton of clicks in my output, as the signal to control the output of the buffer~ is choppy.

i've tried using groove~, play~ and wave~, but none of them interface directly with sig~.

i've also tried hooking up a rampsmooth~ between the sig~ and playback object of choice, as well as creating a line~ that should have been smoothing at the same rate as the polling, but i still get incessant popping.

obviously the source of the problem is the 3 orders of magnitude difference between sample playback rate and controller output rate, but synchronizing some sort of smoothing should work.

i'd even be ok with one step of latency if it means getting rid of the pops.

i'm attaching a zip of the patches (there are a couple of auxilary ones) in case anyone would like to take a look. beware of stray objects that are not connected.

suggestions for smoothing the signal would be GREATLY appreciated.

that does seem to get rid of the pops, and i did try setting the ramp number higher last night, but i was unclear in my original post.

this sample patch sounds really cool, and using a ramp of around 500 seems to work best for killing the pops in my patch, but then the problem becomes accuracy with respect to the original sample.

the whirrring or windy kind of artifacts from the ramp totally overtake the original soundfile and leave only a vague remnant of the original sounds
