[Bug?] Buffersize not independent from filesize

Hi everyone!

I want to load the first ten ms of a 1000 ms audio file in a buffer. As far as i know there are three methods to do that:
1. The third argument of the buffer~ object
2. The second and third argument of the read message
3. The sizeinsamps message

Method one and two didnt work at all. The buffer still had the size of the audio file.
Method three changed the size of the buffer, but also erased the data from it. When i used the reload message to load the audio data back into the buffer, the size was again changed to 1000 ms.

Here is what i did:

– Pasted Max Patch, click to expand. –

Am i doing something wrong or is it a bug?

thats the exspected behaviour. if no size is spezified, the size of the file is taken.

>>Method three changed the size of the buffer, but also erased the data from it.

thats the exspected behaviour. when the size is changed, the data is gone.

method 2. should work – isnt one working method enough?

Of course one method is enough, but as i said, none of them worked.
But anyway, after restarting Max the second method worked. Dont know what the problem had been ten minutes ago…

Thanks for your help!
