Whoa – that’s quite the “error”! maybe it’s time to upgrade your video
drivers. I know it wouldn’t seem to be related, but that’s not exactly the
blue screen of death you’re getting there. Errors related to video drivers
can cause the kind of instability you’re describing here. By the way, it
works fine on my G4 iBook, in fact, it’s a cool patch! I think we need more
people running Xp to try testing this one out…

Ciao Bruno,
I was able to open the patch for few seconds, I started playing with it,
everything seeemed to work fine, but suddenly Max quit.
My setup:
Max 4.5.7
Windows XP SP2
AMD Athlon 3200+
1 Gb ram
160 Gb 7200 HD
Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT with 128Mb ram DD3 (Nforce updated to 93.71)
What do you think might cause the crash?

Yep, crash here too. Nasty. Mac Pro, Max 4.6.2

One thing I see that might cause problems is the snapshot~ 1. It outputs info at higher rate than the scheduler updates. You don’t need it either. 40 ms should be enough for visual updates.

The crash seems to occur when the interpolation comes to an end. Pehaps some devision by zero thing?

But of course Max shouldn’t ever crash, not even in extreme situations.

The problem is in the speed factor: when it is _very_ small it crashes. This happens on Intel machines only, it is fine on PPC: it is probably an internal division by 0. My guess is that there is a check routine for the 0 speed to prevent crash, but not for the near-to-zero speed which becomes zero when it is divided by the actual file length.
Here is a simplified patch (cycling74 could you do anything about this?):

> The problem is in the speed factor: when it is _very_ small it crashes. This happens on Intel machines only, it is fine on PPC: it is probably an internal division by 0. My guess is that there is a check routine for the 0 speed to prevent crash, but not for the near-to-zero speed which becomes zero when it is divided by the actual file length.

> Here is a simplified patch (cycling74 could you do anything about this?):

> #P comment 200 375 67 196622 good…;

Just to second this – but also to say that because of the line~ object I ALSO get a crash with this patch (MBP 17″ 2.16Ghz OSX.4.9) when changing speeds between 0 and 1 or 0 and 2 or anything negative and anything positive. This would be expected as the values would ramp through smaller values at some point……

A version using sig~ instead of line~ does not have this problem:

Regards,
