building application that doesn't run

hi list,

i’m new in trying to build application from max.
i tried the simple way with a simple patch (that is to say, file->build as .app), with no extra scripting commands.
but when i try to launch my app, nothing happens…

what did i do wrong?

i am with osx 10.4, max/msp 4.6.3, there is no strange character in my filename, i’m on the startup disk…

but i’v just seen my runtime has been erased (wtf?!) and max doesn’t tell me anything…
weird.

ok that’s fixed for the runtime (don’t know what happened)
so i get no error message when building, the max console says the building was ok.
but my application doesn’t start.
did i miss something?
i try including my folders, but no more fun…

Can you describe more precisely what you’re doing? What are the path
of the standalone?

well, when my patch is finished, i do :
- file ->build…
- then i press the "build" button and export.
- i copy my objects into the package content. (since they seem not to be present)
when i launch my app, runtime is loading, then crashing…with always the same bug report (cpu_capabilities issue).
i’m on a mac intel.

What happen if you make a standalone from a simple patch? like
makenote help file or whatever.

it works with simple patches.
but mine is still crashing, i tried to remove the loadbang but it doesn’t change anything.
it’s not a complex patch,the only externals i use are udpsend and one of my abtsractions. (and some basic max objects).

it seems the problem comes from udpsend… all works well when i just delete it…

any idea?

Why do you it to the package? it’s a standard object since 4.6.x.

I had a similar problem with iana~ from ircam. It will crash standalones
reliably. It will also crash if I use it within a collective. It won’t
crash if used with the normal patch (all subpatchers seperate). As
nobody wanted to dive deeper, and I didn’t really needed it as
standalone, I’d wonder if a collective of your patch would crash Max as
well…

There must be something either in the collective handling or in the 3rd
party externals or a combination of both…

thats’s strange. I’ve used Iana~ in a standalone application and
didn’t crash.

about my case, i reinstalled max and jitter and it seems to have solved problem.

In case of trouble I would recommend that and repair permissions.
I’ve successfully made an application with updsend, and iana~ so this
is definitely not the problem.

Yes, the old PPC version didn’t crash. When I demanded a new UB version
it had this problem…

With the UB version I have on my computer, I’ve been able to make a
standalone which runs successfully on my MacBook Pro.

I had the problem with creating a collective from the help file. It
would crash "reliably" on different computers with different fresh Max
installs. But this was more than half a year ago, it seems OS/Max
updates cured it…
(Just made a test, the help collective doesn’t crash anymore…)
