I have somehow accumulated a boatload of controllers sending all kinds of MIDI messages to Live at once and every time I want to assign something new, there's some kind of interference (for instance once I hit a high note on my keyboard it will trigger the next scene, which I already had mapped to my APC40 that happens to send the same note on the same channel). I know the fool proof way around this is to program each of my controllers to send on a different MIDI channel in the first place so no messages ever interfere, but I hate digging through six different manuals and figuring all that out. It would be way cooler if there were someway with M4L to gather all the MIDI messages into Max before they were sent to Live (so for instance I could have a gate object at the top of the patch and when it was closed and I went to MIDI map mode, nothing would get mapped). Does that make sense, or sound at all possible to anyone who's familiar with MIDI flow between Max and Live?

Ideally, this M4L patch would also give me the opportunity to create more advanced and flexible control solutions. For example, I could have a slider that changes what MIDI channel my FCB 1010 sends the MIDI notes on. That way if I had the same MIDI notes assigned to the same custom Effects Rack I have placed over several different tracks (with the parameters assigned to different MIDI channels). I could use that slider to quickly change which track those messages are sent to (instead of the way I have it now where the FCB always sends on the same channel, but I have to change banks to get the different MIDI notes which are hard mapped to the different tracks)

I would also like to start messing around with different "modes" to use with my APC 40. Can anyone tell me the quickest way to momentarily bypass the default session control of the pads by say holding the shift button or even tapping one of the buttons on my FCB 1010? I might want to use the clip launching section as a drum pad or a simple on/off for different MIDI instruments I have. Just a simple way to grab these default control messages and "translate" them or turn them off would be super helpful, but I have no idea how to make that happen. Thanks,

I do wonder if the issue you're describing above (hitting a note on the keyboard to which your APC responds) isn't caused by the way you setup the APC.

I've been using my keyboard, the apc as well as an mpd on midi channel one without any of these issues. Did you by any chance turn 'track' or 'sync' for the apc on in Live's midi out section ? You only need 'remote' enabled for the APC; if you have that setup I doubt you'll be experiencing such weird issues.

To answer your question; no there's no way with M4L since it fully depends on Live for everything which comes into it (and to handle whatever is being sent out by a M4L patch).

It's happening because I hard mapped the gray record button to the "launch next scene" button in Live.

If M4L won't work, what about just doing it in a regular Max patch then? I've seen MIDI translator programs out there, so I assume I could make my own "translator" patch in Max. I'm just not sure exactly how the MIDI flow works from my controllers to Live. Or if I have to uncheck all of the controllers in MIDI preferences within Live and send them all through "From Max/MSP 1." Would that work?
