Canon Vixia HF R10

Hello, everybody.

Would someone like to provide a hint as to how to get this camera inputting a live feed to Max on OS X? I can mount the camera as an external drive, but not get it to show up in the Max input list. Is there a magic sequence of button presses on the camera itself that will get it working? Inquiring minds want to know. Imaginary cookies and milk for the first helpful answer. Coal and damnation for flamers and trolls.

Not meant as a troll (I don’t like either coal or damnation), but what makes you think this is even possible?
Almost no basic camcorders have this functionality, let alone over usb.

Thanks for answering. Cookies for you!

I think that you’re correct. Do you know the model names of common workhorse cameras that do this kind of work? I don’t need anything new, but rather an older secondhand model.

Yay cookies!

I know my old (pre-HD era, miniDV type) JVC camcorder supported this, unfortunately I don’t remember the exact name of the device.

Unless you want zoom capability, you might be better off with one of the higher quality webcams or with an analog capture card/device to which you connect your camcorder.
Another solution might be to use a canon photo camera as webcam using third party software such as http://www.extrawebcam.com/

Curses! Windows only. Oh well, other Max topics will keep me busy for a long time. I’ll add in a live camera later.

If you are looking to simply keep an eye out for particular areas of your yard, like a pool area, you won’t need to invest a huge amount of money for a top of the Bullet Cameras. A basic lower entry model will suffice.
