chebyshev polynomials

what use are they used for acoustically? do they have a particular set of harmonics? i tried using them as oscillators and they didnt sound too good

Chebyshev polys are generally used for generating waveshaping tables.

Check out MSP tutorial 12, and/or read up on waveshaping in Roads _The Computer Music Tutorial_ or Dodge/Jerse _Computer Music_. Wikipedia probably has a decent article/tutorial, too.

try running a sine trough a lookup table referencing the cheby.

you can get great harmonic oscilators like this.
