clicks & dropouts on windows xp

November 8, 2008 | 2:38 pm

hello everybody,

i´ve got some problems with my max 4.5 on windows xp (SP 2).
when iam running sampler patches wich uses the poly~ objekt
(or other patches like nobuyasu sakodna granular 2.5)
there are some dropouts and clicks – but the cpu utilities is not more
than 11%.

i was installing asio4all but there was no changes at all. actually i
choose
512 io vectorsize/ 64 signal vectorsize – i tryed larger buffersizes but
not with the expected results.
and even with my m-audio fasttrackpro audiointerface ive got that kind
of problems…

any recommendation or experience with that?

is it windows specific?

thanks alot, johannes.

The update from 4.5 to 4.6 was free, if i remember well… Why do you
still use the old one ?

Regarding your problem, clicks usually happens when VS is too low (i.e
64 is not good with asio4all on my box), especially when using granular
stuff. But it seems you already set higher VS… Do you have these
problems with other audio applications ?

best

no, it mostly happens with granular patches and specially with a small
loopsize -
but there are also dropouts (of +- 0.5 sec) in a 5 sec range.

thanks j

i dont get it. the clicks and dropouts also appear within the
polyanticlick-patch of the sampling-
examples. exactly the same problem on an other win xp mashine also with
the polyanticlick-patch.
could it depend on the samples wich are loaded? some of them work pretty
well, while others played
with a lot of clicks (in example polyanticlick- its the "vibes-a1.aif"
and the "cello-f2.aif" sample).

any ideas?
thanks.j

I/0 and S VS don’t have to be different, unless you need very short delays with feedback. Try 256/256 or 2048/2048 for example.

Also, it’s difficult to know if the problem comes from your Max program or from your computer configuration. Perhaps you can post your Max program here… Personaly I don’t even have Max 5 but most people here do.

Also, I don’t know about the M-Audio fsttkpr, but at least the cheap Edirol UA-1EX that I bought by error (actually, because of someone on this forum) gives worse results than using the built-in sound card with the asio4all driver.
