how can i get audio in from my soundcard (channel 1&2) into max msp when i use the ad_rewire driver? (using ableton as an effect unit).

to route audio from ableton into MaxMSP, see:

http://www.cycling74.com/story/2006/12/15/161329/34

rewire tutorial 1 talks about getting audio from MaxMSP to Ableton.

doing that is quite simple. the problem is that when i route audio out from max to ableton, i can’t get audio in from my soundcard into max anymore.
how can i solve this?

how can i do these two at the same time? using max to route the audio into ableton for like fx processing. and at the same time using the audio ins of your soundcard for your maxpatch?

hello,

If you just need to process the audio like a hardware process effects you maybe want to check Plogue. http://www.plogue.com
Acts like MAX but it’s easier and you can route the processed signal into max again or to your Speakers. And can hold several processors as many as you like.

no its just a feature i want to add to my sampling maxpatch.

OK.
You are only building and adding features whit Ableton as your external effects processor. as Ableton, Plogue as the same Rewire Structure, so you can choose. In both cases the software must be installed to detect the rewire program.

Good Work for You.

thanks alot but thats not a solution for me. i’ve got these two programs both filled up with loads of files and i want to combine them the way i explained above. i now it must be possible i just don’t know how.

OK,
I read the earlier Posts and what you asking, is impossible, since the options you have on DSP are no longer available because max are in rewire mode.
Since max is in rewire mode it will not accept audio from no were. However, you can have both MAX 4, and Max 5 opened, and send audio from Max 4 to Ableton, and use Max 5 to Input other audio.

When i first learn MAX the Professor told us "There is nothing impossible in MAX", but i think this one here is really impossible, but if you discover a way please tell me. I’ll give you another solutions to do what you want and in all solutions MAX accepts Audio from DSP Status normally.
1-If your needs is just process audio, you can check the object vst~ and build your own VST Processor inside MAX.
There are other ways, but each one more complex.
2-You can use the vst~, build whit wormhole (http://code.google.com/p/wormhole2/downloads/list) and send the audio to Plogue using only the plugin and process the audio in Plogue (or Ableton) and send them back to MAX or not.
3-You can use Plogue in other computer and inside Plogue use a VST Wormhole and receive audio from local ethernet and process the audio, and send them back to MAX (or not) using Wormhole Plugin inside MAX, for this you need two computers and a local LAN.
You can try SoundFlower but i think it wont solve your problem.
In all the cases DSP for MAX is used in normal way, not in rewire.
But it really depends on what you are building, perhaps there is other solutions.

OK, i was writing the Post, i couldn’t read your post in time. I thought you want to build only whit MAX, so i try to give you a solution based on that. In fact i only used SoundFlower once, but if feet your needs great!

i dont know a lot about this topic, but i can confim that soundflower
is sooo coool.

I send 16 tracks of audio from Ableton to
Max, process them and send it out to another soundcard.

with no problem and lowwww latency

ok but now i have the following problem: i can’t sync ableton live’s clock truth rewire becasue it’s not in use(rewire).
how can i sync max’s transport to ableton’s tempo.
tried to do this with a metro banging every quatre note, wich triggers a midi signal wich is sent to ableton and asigned to the tap button. but this isn’t very tight.
is there another way to do this maybe? i’m on osx so maybe using the IAC driver?
