I've been making a generative patch and getting a little but stuck, wonder if anyone could spare five minutes pointing me in the right direction.

I've been using lots of if statements to automate the process of selecting a set of predefined chord voicing's and was wondering where to explore next and potentially how I would implement a random selection with a bias.

Or say for instance the chords have either A or B voicing's if the last voice was A then next voice will be B. Have tried doing that with if's and two variables but I'm just a little stuck thinking about how to store and record and analyse the "state". I reckon it's just an if $i1 == A then out B, elseif B then out A, but I don't think elseif works like in other languages.

So my counter is the first variable, the chord voice is the second and the third is the opposite, but it doesn't work outputting $i3 even when the first two variables are both 1 ie making the statement true.

Is there something silly I am overlooking, to I need to bang all the variables every time I want to access the answer?

I know this can be turned pretty easily into a useable bias module, as you can state if it's over a certain threshold then do something ie $i2 > 90 then fire. But just stuck at getting it to output what I expect to see.

If anyone could help me see the error in my ways I would be greatly appreciative!

conditional-bias

It appears the [if] doesn't like the out1 argument. Removing it seems to resolve your problem. Also, using copy compressed (from the File Menu) and pasting that code in is easier...

Think it was just the out1 message it didn't like!

Really is not doing what I am expecting it to do though.

I think I'm expecting it only to answer if both the statements are true, but it doesn't seem to be doing that.

For instance it pushes through the values of the counter even if the first statement is false, it's kinda confusing me. Unless I'm just being stupid and expecting the object to work the way i want it to and not the way it actually works! I want it to work like this: if this is true (statement1) and this is true (statement2) then do this. Or I am just being plain dumb and not getting how the if object multiple statements work?

Stick an elseif in the if object please cycling74!

Was it the fact you were using the 'or' instead of the 'and' operator?

OMG Evan thank you so much! I didn't know the ampersand sign could be used in the max if statement, thank you so much! I thought judging by the examples the way to do it was with || but that seems to mean or. Bit confusing as there is no example with & in the examples. Just checked it out and one & doesn't do it but two ands like: && seems to work fine.

Works exactly the way I want with this expression:

if ($i1 == 1) && ($i2 == 1) then $i1 else out2 $i3

All I need to start making this fauxron for my "fauxral net TM" is set the second expression to (i2 >= i3) and i3 is your threshold level ie 0-100, then you can essentially train it by increasing or decreasing increments, reward it for good behaviour!
