connecting external devices to max msp, using serial ports

Hi im confused about how to connect external devices to max msp ive been using it for a while but have never been shown how to do this. I have a VOIP phone (skype phone), and an xbox 360 guitar hero III controller if anybody knows how to connect devices to max please let me know. What I wanted to do to start off was make a simple sequencer using tht VOIP phone or else the guitar hero III controller and i understand its got something to do with usin
serial data or something but it confused about it to be honest.

PLease help if you can,

Conor Higgins

Try the “hi” object. (hi = human interface), but be warned you’ll likely
need drivers for that to work. If you’re on a mac, search the interwebs for
open source knocked-up drivers.

What most physical computing folk would do with a device like that is use an
arduino board to pass the information to max, but if you’re on a budget,
stick to trying to find drivers.
