Controling Max with a foot pedal?

March 7, 2012 | 10:48 am

Hi!
I am very new to using Max and also in general very fresh in using electronic devices when making music.
I am a saxophonist and is about to perform a piece for saxophone and Max.
For this piece I need to advance the max patch while playing using either a foot pedal or the space key on the computer.

I have a Keith McMillen Soft Step to use, but I cant figure out how to make it cooperate with Max. It seems to be very simple, but unfortunately not simple enough for my brain/knowledge.

If you have some inputs for me to use I would be very happy.

Try the [hi] object, that might get you messages from your softstep. If you want to use the space bar, you’ll want to use the [key] object, and the space bar is number 32.

I would download the SoftStep devkit here:

It’s got a bunch of interesting things, but it shows right on the surface how to get data from key 3.

There’s a way you can control it directly without needing the dev kit, just regular Max objects. Very handle pedal….
