Could anybody make a BPM indicator plugin ?

April 16, 2008 | 10:21 am

Hello all, i don’t actually own Max yet as I don’t have enough money for it just yet, but I was wondering if someone could make me a simple plug in ?

Basically i"d love a plug in that just flashes in to the host tempo and displays time sig and the tempo, so for example the plug in window would read 200BPM 3/4 and perhaps pulse to the tempo or the background flash to the tempo?

Would this be simple – does anyone make a little bit of cash by making this ?

It’s actually so simple it’s hardly worth the cash. The plug-ins I
write have this functionality anyway, so I can strip one out. Do you
have the Pluggo Runtime? Mac or PC?

Oh wow perfect – i though it would be easy, but then again i’ve yet to make any patches with Max/msp.. ha.

Thanks for responding, much appreciated and yes i have the runtime software on the mac..

I can’t wait till i can buy Max/MSP – would having a play with Pure Data do more damage than good if im to go to Max/MSP ?

Thanks once again!

No, it will do good, its the same principle.
Some objects are called differently or behave differently.
But you can also learn for 30-days free the actual Max 4.6.3. And as
this month Max 5 is released, you get another 30 days with Max 5. If you
fall back to Pd after 60 days of Maxin’ you must be really poor… ;-)

Making a plugin, is probably easier in Max than PD. But PD is really nice also, and in general not inferior to Max. In some ways they’re different, but the main programming paradigm is the same.

Exactly what objects would render BPM from a sound file?
