counting down a number object

January 25, 2009 | 8:47 pm

hello
I am a new max user and I a building my first patch, right now I am having a hard time figuring out how to get a number box with a 400 inside to count down to 200 over time. I tried banging a message that contains ( 400, 200 10000 ) but that just immediately sends a 200 to the number box then no change. How do I do this.
thank you,

JJR

As with most things in Max, there are myriad ways to do this. The simplest way to do what you ask for is to use line:

– Pasted Max Patch, click to expand. –

Depending on the bigger picture, there may be advantages to using other methods, such as a counter/metro combination, Uzi, accum, IncDec, etc.

Studying the tutorials should give you a better idea of the range of possible ways to approach this problem, and find the method that works for your specific problem.

Copy the "funny" text, including the lines that read:

– Pasted Max Patch, click to expand. –

Then go to Max and select "New From Clipboard" from the file menu. You
could also just paste into an existing patcher.

There is a Max object called line.

It should be pretty easy to find.
