creating a network in osx and having an android phone connect to it for touchOSC

August 31, 2012 | 7:11 pm

Hello -

I need to work a little touchOSC element into a max patch that I’m writing, but I am frustrated by the fact that I can’t make a computer-to-computer network in OSX and have the android phone connect to it. I believe that this is called an ad-hoc connection, which is not supported in android. It only seems to want to work with connections created by a router. Does anyone have a solution for connecting android to computer for touchOSC purposes that does not require a wifi connection outside of the computer itself?

I’ve read a trick about that but can’t find it. Search the web is all I can say… If latency isn’t a big deal, you can try through a router, I’ve done a few stuffs that way and it worked reliably enough for me.

If you’re still looking for the possibility to connect your android phone to an "ad-hoc" look at how to root your phone. Now that mine is rooted I can connect it to an "ad-hoc" network without any other configurations. In fact It’s a simple thing to change in a file called "spa_supplicant.conf" in tour phone (ROOT/etc/wifi). But you’ll be able to change it only if you’re admin (root) on your phone…

Hope it helps !
