creating a TEMPO MAP with a nice counter
first post, from a big newbie, so pardon me if this is a redundant and/or stupid question..
I am trying to create a patch which will basically be a music-playback device, with a bar and beat counter, and the possibility to switch from one layer to the next (like, high to mid intensity, as is often made in video game music).
My idea was to have the audio sequence bounced out as wave files, and (that’s the part where I’m a bit stumped!) have a midi file playing in sync to it, delivering all the tempo information, changes etc to the counter- so that you basically can put any type of music, be it rubato or not, and the counter will follow that.
Having a click would be great too, but that might be just a matter of playing another audio file in sync with the rest, right?
Thank you so much, I’ll be happy about any suggestion!
If you’re on Max 5 look at the Extras menu and select the GlobalTransport. Does that do what you need? If so, that’s just a Max patch in /Applications/Max5/patches/extras and you could probably hack it up to do what you need. To look at the guts of the patch open it, then command+click (on a Mac) to put it in edit mode and check the View and NoFloat toggles that will appear when unlocked.
Great, thank you! Do you know of a quick and dirty way to basically make this transport follow a tempo map from a imdi file?
Thanks for the help,
i think rubato and [metro] do not go together really well.
what one could try is building a beat finder yourself,
be it based on midi or based on audio, but i see no
way how to have an automatic metronome playing to a
the only that you could do is read the BPM info from
the midi file (if it has one), hoping that its note
events follow at least a main speed line.
(many files with classic music dont.)
I see.. so, suppose I create a sequence of a classical orchestral piece in digital performer or logic, export one audio file with the actual music and one midi file with only the tempo map ("tempo information" it is called in DP I think), there’s no way to have Max play back the audio and the midi file at the same time, and having a bar/beat counter interpret that tempo information?
Thanks for your super quick replies!
