Creating words from individual letters

May 7, 2007 | 9:57 pm

Hi,

Im trying to create a patch that creates words from individual letters. I have all 26 letters of the alphabet (plus some more for additional letters in some of my chosen words) loaded into a seperate matrix. The matrix is then set to usedstdim. The dimensions are loaded from a coll object and through an unpack object to set values for the dimensions.

When I run this patch with a single letter it seems to work fine. Is it a case that im expecting far too much. If so, does anyone know of a simpler way to achieve this effect?

Ive attached a copy of my patch below

Thanks

I did it once with filein & jit.lcd, but it was very slow. If you
like, I’ll send you the very messy subpatch, which you’ll have to
figure out, as I haven’t looked at it an ages, offlist.

Yeah cheers that might be usefull. Think that I may need to go down another route using jit.gl.text3d.

Thanks for your help

yeah gl.text3d is probably what you want to experiment with, however there is nothing inherently wrong with loading 26 qt movies for each letter. but you definitely want to do yourself a favor and study the "Poly~forMovies.pat" (jitter-examples/video/quicktime/PolyMovie/).
otherwise managing 26 qt movies becomes a nightmare.

even if you decide to go the gl route, poly~ might still be a good solution for your situation.
