Csound~ for Intel

February 16, 2007 | 5:49 pm

I’ve been trying to reconstruct my csound~ sample player to post as a
followup to my recent response. I am getting some errors that look like I
do not have the Intel version of CsoundLib. I tried a CsoundLibX that I
found on line but no go. My csound~ says .mxo and I got it as part of the
UBC toolkit so I am guessing that is OK.

Can someone tell where to get the Intel CsoundLib and where exactly to
install it?

Intel CsoundLib comes with the install of Csound 5. You can find that here:

There is no OSX version at that link. Is Csound 5 available for Intel macs?
I was particularly asking about csound~ UB.

Csound 5 is not yet available on intel macs, although some people have tried to build it from sources with a little bit of success and I believe MacCsound is semi functional under Rossetta,

Got it. I erased all traces of old csounds from my MacBook Intel and
installed. Started max with csound~_demo.mxt, clicked on "csound demo.csd"
and got the following error report. What am I missing?

csound~ build date: 2006_11_05
PortMIDI real time MIDI plugin for Csound
CoreAudio real-time audio module for Csound
by Victor Lazzarini

csound demo.csd -g -+rtmidi=null -M0
0dBFS level = 32768.0
Csound version 5.03.0 (float samples) Nov 6 2006
libsndfile-1.0.17
UnifiedCSD: demo.csd
Failed to open csd file: No such file or directory
Decode failed….stopping
csound_csound(): csoundCompile() failed.

Hi,
I don’t think you need to install csoundLib since version 5, because the
latest version of csound external for csound 5 uses the csound framework
that is automatically installed using the standard csound5 installer. Just
fully install csound 5 and delete all the other older copies of csound
external and csoundLib.

One problem I have had is that sometimes csound external reports an error
(and fails to render) when the csd file is placed in the same directory as
the max patch or the external itself, so it is best to put the csd somewhere
else and then write the full path in you patch.
