I am new to writing externals and I am writing a custom function.

I am coercing the value of my atom passed in via argv to a long.

But i'm not sure that it is proper... I can imagine for instance a scenario in which the user inputs an array and I would like to ensure that the value I grab is

This works....
But i'm not sure that it is proper... I can imagine for instance a scenario in which the user inputs an array and I would like to ensure that the value I grab is
1) only a single number and
2) the first atom in the atom array.

i looked at it again and i think instead of that scenario, which would certainly work, i would do:

void myobj_someparam(t_myobj *x, long n)
{
long myint = n;
}

as an A_LONG instead of looking for an A_GIMME.

thanks for your suggestion tho... it eludes to the idea of type-checking individual elems which would certainly be helpful.
