hi,

is it possible to change the object palette? i assume so as soft.vns adds a few icons.
would come in really handy as I seldom use it besides the six leftmost objects.

thank you,

well, then that can be considered a feature request.

i’d like to have any object (also 3rd party) to be placed at any location with a picture of my choosing as an icon.

and add to that shortcuts for inserting objects and messages, like in PD, the scripting way of doing it is too clumsy.

Yeah, User Interface objects.

The palette is there for User Interface objects. You write a UI object,
your user puts it into max-startup, and its in the palette. That’s what
Jitter does, that’s what SoftVNS does, that’s what iCE does, that’s
what Nato did, that’s what everyone else adding objects to the palette
does.

But that’s not what the UI palette is there for.

The palette is actually far more limiting than object boxes.

> and add to that shortcuts for inserting objects and messages, like in

I take it you’re already making full use of Templates, Clippings,

i do, a key combination for new objects and messages would top it off.

the more time i spend on max, the more i want to optimize my workflow.
the clippings feature is a godsend, as is the extra’s folder.
making lots of general use patchers is nice too.
reminds me, better get into them shortcuts…

Fair ’nuff. To be honest, I hardly ever use shortcuts, despite having
built a massive list of them. And whenever I see someone pointing to Pd
as a model for user interaction… experience has taught to ask the
question that was asked.

> a key combination for new objects and messages would top it off.

There have been times when I would have liked to generate a new object
without grabbing the mouse. But, aside from the fact that Max already
has 30 menu shortcuts and who’s got time to memorize all of ‘em
rhetorical question mark, object creation is an intrinsically graphic
operation. You need some way to specify *where* to put down the new
bugger^W object box. And the way to specify a location in a patcher
window is that damn’ furless rodent.

I do option-drag a lot to create new objects, oftentime I select an
existing object and hit Cmd-D. Either way, type to replace the box
content. Don’t forget that you can type the name of a UI object into an
object box and heyprestobobsyeruncle. That includes typing the magic
incantation “message” (without the quotes) into an object box.

Now, if patch cords would just remain in place when transfiguring an
objbox into a messbox, *that* would be something worth begging Cycling
74 for.

Best — Peter

i’d like to have them signal cables a pixel slimmer too, they’re too fat, but that’s really nitpicking…

just checked out the toolbox and must say, it rocks!

On the contrary: I’m sure Cycling ’74 could start a handy little
sideline in selling an upgrade to Max/MSP featuring extra-fat, low-
impedance patch cords. Of course, the longer the cord, the more it
would cost. And command-Y would have to be disabled: those right-
angle bends would really degrade the sound quality.

I figure that’s because numerics lead to money…

Seriously, this is the only time i request anything to C74 but how could
they put this away for so long time ?! : just a file / preference /
keyboard shortcuts option, for god’s sake.
All the tricks like Toolbox or others scripts are nice but will never
replace user defined parameters coded IN the software. And i realy miss
the paste-replace shortcut. And i still don’t understand why there’s a
ctrl/apple-V for paste and no ctrl+shift+V for paste-replace… If you
can do it for one, you can do it for all.

best regards

don’t get me started, there’s a lot of idiocy like this going on, some find it historical, I find it backwards.
but do keep in mind that a small minority is causing these mediaoutbursts and it is not a general sentiment, on the other hand general consensus is that some things need to be reformed on both sides. only real problem is that we have more money then the french speaking and they have larger unemployment and the like, some people just don’t feel like sharing. on the other hand, shared money is being used the wrong way.

anyway, I live in Brussels, speak dutch with other dutch speakers, when there is a french speaking person around we speak french and if there’s someone who speaks another tongue, we happily speak english together.
people themselves get along pretty well.

i’m really more concerned about extreme right wing anti-foreigner ideologies, though both are related.

best
