cv.jit , blob detction , trigger zones

November 7, 2008 | 9:41 pm

I’m new with max and I’m currently working on my degree project for an upcoming gallery showing at MassArt. My project is a study of visual, auditory and physical interpersonal communication through intuitive movement.

In brief my project is an installation in which a translucent piece of fabric is placed between two people. Two cameras, placed at the base of the separation on either side capture the two people and that is sent to two computers and then to projectors that project each persons mirrored image on the fabric allowing both people to interact in this projected abstraction of themselves and also see the other person through the projection surface. It’s kind of difficult to explain without a drawing but my problem is this:

I need to be able to have the video source of the peoples movements directly effect audio. I’ve been able to output good numbers with jit.iter after effecting with jit.wake and slide and i attempted to use them to control a simple sine wave frequency but max crashes. Also I’ve tried using the cv.jit library but simply can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I can’t get any output when capturing live video. PLEASE HELP

Would blob detection methods be best? where should I start? can I create trigger zones that play loops when something passes through it?

also, here is another stupid newbie question. How do I open code that people post to the forums?? ha

If you are overwhelmed by cv.jit you might have better luck with my
simpler but less flexible external 2up.jit.centroids. Find it at http://2uptech.com
